AAP Virtual Education Program

Friday, October 9, 2020 4:00 PM - Tuesday, May 11, 2021 6:00 PM (CDT)

Description

2020-21 AAP Virtual Education Program
November 10, 2020 - May 11, 2021
4:00 pm - 5:00 pm (central time) 2nd Tuesday of each month (see below for session dates)

Virtual meetings are everywhere, and yet feeling part of an interactive and supportive academic community has gotten more complex. In addition, the virtual environment has amplified aspects of social and demographic disparities that lurk in the academic environment. In lieu of the annual meeting in September (postponed due to Covid-19), AAP will be hosting a series of online workshops highlighting educational skill-building and discussions of strategies to foster inclusivity, equitability, and anti-racism in the academic environment. Given the world’s “new normal,” we are going to emphasize strategies to continue to positively grow and develop your academic career, teaching & mentoring skills, and educational programming, rather than to just “get through this until things are normal again.” Programming includes real-time mentorship opportunities as well as time to connect with colleagues across the world. Join us for an educational program designed in the interactive and collaborative format you’ve come to expect from the AAP.

AAP is pleased to provide this online opportunity for academic psychiatrists and their colleagues to connect and collaborate through the AAP Virtual Education Program. Seven educational sessions will be offered on the second Tuesday of the month with the educational session from 4:00pm - 5:00pm (central time) and flexible time for questions and moderated discussion afterward.

Join your colleagues to learn more about and discuss the following important topics:

November 10, 2020: Freedom from PowerPoint: Planning a Highly Effective Learning Session
December 8, 2020: The Value of Mentoring
January 12, 2021: Racism in Psychiatry: Past & Present
February 9, 2021: Wellness
March 9, 2021: Building Virtual Learning Communities
April 13, 2021: Virtual Recruiting: Lessons Learned

May 11, 2021:  Becoming a More Equitable Educator

In addition to registering for the seven presentations, AAP will have more community building offerings available over the next 6-8 months, for no additional charge: examples include: interest group sessions, poster reviews, WIPs/Educators Showcase, social gatherings and more.

Once registration has been paid, participants will be required to pre-register for each session by clicking the link provided in their confirmation or reminder emails.  Registration will open one month prior to each session and close 1 week prior to session. We will send regular reminders to all AAP Virtual Education Program registrants about the upcoming sessions so signing up even a week in advance is possible. At 9:00am (central time), on the morning of the presentation, we will email each pre-registrant a unique entry code allowing access into the session.

Registration gives you access to the entire program with flexibility to come to as few or as many sessions as you would like.

PLEASE NOTE: The AAP Virtual Education Program does not offer CME credits.
