From Billy Joel's Scenes from an Italian Restaurant: "A bottle of red...a bottle of white...whatever kind of mood you're in tonight..."

Calling all wine connoisseurs, casual wine drinkers, wine lurkers, and those who know nothing of wine and would just like to hang out and learn more among your friends. 

Grab a glass and a bottle and a copy of Great Wine Made Simple by Andrea Robinson as AAP Members Drs. Lisa Seyfried, Sean Blitzstein, and John Luo introduce us to the basics of wine and wine tasting in this enjoyable, interactive 45-minute presentation. We will be using Great Wine Made Simple as a guide for this event, so you are encouraged to purchase and pre-read in advance of the event. You will be introduced to some of the main grapes used in making wine. This event is for fans of both whites and reds. Lisa will lead us through tasting the three major white grapes (Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay) and Sean will take on the reds (Pinot Noir, Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah/Shiraz). John will offer practical tips on how to navigate a wine list. On or before February 20, we will be providing registrants with a list of suggested red and/or white wines to purchase before the tasting event (suggested purchase of 3 reds and 3 whites) along with additional details about the event. You might be thinking: "Six bottles of wine for a tasting for one person?" Consider including other adult family members or those in your social bubble in this event. The more the merrier!

For those who abstain from alcohol, we do have several options if you would still like to join us to learn about wine-tasting while enjoying your own non-alcoholic beverage. These can be purchased online or you can check your local larger, well-known grocery stores with wine, beer, and liquor departments or your local liquor store. AAP is pleased to provide this online opportunity for academic psychiatrists and their colleagues to connect and collaborate through the AAP Virtual Social Program. Two more additional Tastings & Events Sessions will be offered on the fourth Saturday of the month from 4:00pm - 6:00pm (central time) with the first 30-60 minutes reserved for the "educational" portion and ample time for socializing afterward.
