The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria seeks an academic psychiatrist with strong interest in graduate medical education to lead our general adult psychiatry residency training program. The Program Director is a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Candidates should share our values for high-quality patient care, the education of residents and medical students, and the promotion of scholarly activity. The ideal candidate will have meaningful administrative experience, excellent teaching and communication skills, and be eager to lead. Competitive salary and benefits are commensurate with rank.

The program is ACGME-accredited with no citations, fully funded, with twenty positions. Institutional support is provided for administration of the program, educational innovation, curriculum development, and mentoring. The program director is supported by faculty members who excel in their fields and are deeply dedicated to training and education.

Program Director responsibilities include:
- Oversee a comprehensive residency curriculum
- Monitor and evaluate resident performance to ensure compliance with program goals and objectives
- Recruit and retain highly qualified psychiatry residents
- Provide clinical supervision and guidance to residents, including direct patient care
- Support faculty members to develop and maintain a strong educational culture
- Collaborate with community partners
- Effectively manage a residency budget and resources
- Ensure compliance with residency training program policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Foster a culture of continuous quality improvement and patient safety
- Participate in program evaluation and strategic planning initiatives
- Attend conferences and professional meetings to remain at the forefront of residency education

Other duties will be tailored to the interest of the applicant and include a broad range of clinical services along the entire continuum of care. Our clinical enterprise, the largest in the region, allows applicants to match their clinical interest to an array of opportunities: adult and child inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, subspecialty clinics, ECT, rTMS, community outreach, forensics, and college student clinical care, among others. Our strong collaborative relationships support our educational mission and provide state-of-the-art training facilities including one of the nations’ largest simulation training centers. Minimum requirements include licensed or license-eligible in the state of Illinois and ABPN board-certification in adult psychiatry.

Position Summary

The faculty member will lead and administer the Psychiatry Residency Training Program. The Program Director will be responsible for implementing program goals, recruiting and retaining qualified residents, and ensuring compliance with relevant accreditation and regulatory requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversite of an ACGME-accredited adult psychiatry residency training program
  • Accountable for program curriculum, operations, teaching, scholarly activity, recruitment and selection, faculty development, orientation, evaluation, and promotion
  • Direct patient care
  • Supervision and teaching of general psychiatry residents and medical students
  • Function as a University faculty member, performing such duties as are appropriate to academic rank and position

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or DO graduate of an LCME/AACOM-accredited medical school
  • Graduate of an ACGME-approved psychiatry residency
  • Licensed or license-eligible in the state of Illinois
  • ABPN board-certified in adult psychiatry

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in administration of educational programs
  • Experience in teaching and mentoring psychiatry residents
