Medical Director of Psychiatry

Saint Joseph’s Medical Center

Yonkers, NY

The Opportunity

Saint Joseph’s Medical Center is seeking an accomplished, strategic thinking physician leader to serve as Director of Psychiatry. Due to a planned retirement of a highly respected leader, Saint Joseph's seeks a progressive and visionary psychiatrist to provide clinical and strategic leadership to its integrated behavioral health program. The Director of Psychiatry will oversee all current programs and develop a strategic plan for growth and the future of behavioral health services in a dyad leadership model with the Senior Vice President of Behavioral Health Services. Saint Joseph’s comprehensive behavioral health programs provide tremendous value and service to the community and represent a major percentage of revenue across the system in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This is an outstanding opportunity for an active visionary leader focused on clinical excellence, quality care, and program development to lead one of the most highly regarded inpatient and ambulatory behavioral health providers in New York State.

The Organization

A merger of Saint Joseph's Hospital and St. Vincent's in 2010 created one of the largest and most innovative behavioral health programs in the state of New York.  The New York Medical College at Saint Joseph's Psychiatry Residency Program received its initial accreditation by ACGME in July 2022 and its residents receive extraordinary training in all behavioral health modalities across both SJMC campuses.

The range of services includes a total of 152 inpatient psychiatry beds in Yonkers and the St. Vincent’s campus in Harrison and a 30-bed inpatient addiction rehabilitation unit in Harrison. The hospital provides electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and plans to extend its interventional services to Ketamine and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). With this depth of services and excellence in care, the program frequently partners the county and state on innovative programming.

Outpatient services provide over 650,000 behavioral health visits annually and include Westchester County’s 24/7 Crisis Prevention and Response Team; outpatient mental health services for children, adolescents and adults in Yonkers, White Plains and Harrison; outpatient addiction recovery services for adolescents and adults in Yonkers, Tuckahoe, Harrison and Port Chester; a partial hospital program for adults and adolescents in Harrison; personalized recovery-oriented services (PROS) in Harrison and Staten Island; and Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams in Westchester and Staten Island.

In addition, the hospital manages opioid treatment centers in Yonkers, Brooklyn and Queens and serves as the 988-call center for Westchester County. Saint Joseph’s is committed to addressing the social determinants of health through its behavioral health and care coordination programs and manages residential services for over 1,400 individuals in four boroughs of New York City and Westchester County. Housing options range from community residences, supportive living environments, and scatter-site apartments to permanent housing. The hospital operates health home care coordination programs providing case management for at-risk individuals in Westchester County and New York City. 2023 was the inaugural year for the hospital’s New York Medical College affiliated psychiatric residency training program.

The Position

The Director of Psychiatry is responsible for the organization and direction of the Saint Joseph’s Department of Psychiatry, including all professional activities of the medical staff and the resident physician staff. The Director is responsible for ensuring all clinical care delivered by the Department is in accordance with the highest quality standards. As part of hospital leadership, the Director ensures that care is delivered in concert with the hospital’s mission and that Psychiatry remains a center of excellence at Saint Joseph’s Medical Center.

  • M.D./D.O. degree or equivalent.
