The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is seeking applications and nominations for an Academic Psychiatrist to serve as Chair of the Department of Psychiatry.

The Department of Psychiatry provides full clinical inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services at BIDMC. It also has a substantial research program, including both clinical and laboratory-based investigations, in a variety of areas. As a Harvard Medical School (HMS) teaching hospital, the Department of Psychiatry also provides education to medical students, residents, and fellows. BIDMC also serves as the flagship academic medical center for the broader Beth Israel Lahey Health system.

Applicants should have a record of significant academic accomplishment and demonstrate the leadership skills to nurture and enhance the research, teaching and clinical portfolios of the Department of Psychiatry. This individual will have far-reaching leadership responsibilities, accomplishments in psychiatric research, as well as considerable skill as a clinician with highly effective administrative, communication, and managerial skills. They must be able to lead a large and complex department, and also to engage with institutional, departmental, and divisional leaders, the Harvard community, as well as the regional, national and international psychiatry communities.

An academic appointment as Associate Professor or as Professor of Psychiatry at HMS will be commensurate with experience, training, and achievements in addition to teaching activities.
