About the Position:

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health for Penn State College of Medicine and the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is seeking an academic Adult Psychiatrist for a combined outpatient and inpatient position at the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute (PPI) in Harrisburg, PA. The candidate will primarily provide general outpatient psychiatric care, with an option to dedicate a portion of time to any of the subspecialty areas in the clinic as described below. Other areas of the applicant’s clinical interests also can be considered.

Outpatient duties will be combined with inpatient coverage for other faculty. Inpatient coverage will be a minimum of 6 weeks per year, but flexible if more inpatient time preferred.

PPI outpatient services include general outpatient care delivered to all ages, as well as multiple subspecialty care programs. PPI subspecialty areas include a first episode psychosis clinic, a dialectical behavioral therapy program, a Hispanic clinic, services for patients with intellectual disabilities, services for LGBTQI+ patients, geriatric assessments and treatment, Clozaril and long acting injectables, and services for patients with co-occurring drug/alcohol use. At PPI, we also have 89 inpatient beds, ECT and neuromodulation services, and an Advancement in Recovery (AIR) addiction treatment program.

Services through Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, in Hershey PA include programs in general and specialty adult and child psychiatry and psychology, adult partial hospitalization, sleep medicine and behavioral sleep medicine, eating disorders, psychiatry and addiction, consultation/liaison, and integrated care with primary care and medical/surgical specialties.

At the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute (PPI), located in uptown Harrisburg, PA, the department provides staffing for a full spectrum of general and specialty psychiatric care for children and adults, including outpatient and partial hospitalization programs, 89 inpatient beds, ECT and neuromodulation services, and an Advancement in Recovery (AIR) addiction treatment program.

  • MD, DO or equivalent degree
  • Completion of accredited residency program
  • BC/BE in Psychiatry is required with certification within 3 years after hire
  • Ability to acquire a license to practice in PA and a DEA certificate
  • Successful candidates should have strong teaching as well as clinical skills and, optimally, potential for scientific and scholarly achievement
